Cross Country (Nordic) Ski Team - Jackson Middle School

A parent of one of our athletes requested I post his note on the blog...it's promoting the Nordic program available to all middle school students.

The link to register for the Jackson Nordic program is HERE and is coordinated with the high school Nordic program.

Captains' Practices are already happening...click HERE for more information.

A fun video of last year's high school and middle school team is HERE.

Here is Mr. Sparke's message (thank you Forrest for your support!):

Greetings Coach Crandall,

I wanted to send a quick note you are welcome to post on the JMS Cross Country blog site.  I'd like to cover two things:

#1 - Thank you for all the hard work you and your fellow coaches did for the JMS team.  It was fun to see each runner get stronger and stronger each week and to see some PR (Personal Records) in the last few meets.  I know many of the athletes are looking forward to next season.

#2 - An appeal to ALL JMS Cross Country parents and athletes to consider joining the Nordic Ski team.  Many of the same runners (JMS and CPHS) have joined the Nordic team to continue to stay in shape and continue to bond with some great student-athletes.  There still is plenty of room on the team for all skill levels.  For parents/guardians out there, its not an expensive sport like downhill skiing might be. More importantly for the athletes that have never done cross country skiing....you don't need to have ANY EXPERIENCE!  In fact, there are several athletes on the high school team that never skied before.  The coaches and experienced skiers are there to help.

We want to keep the student-athletes active.  Cross Country Skiing is an extension of the running season....its just a little bit colder!  But hey, we are from Minnesota and we can take it.

Thanks Coach Crandall and parents please consider introducing your athlete to the Nordic team .  It's AWESOME!

Forrest

Jackson Boys Win NWSC Championship

The Jackson Cross Country Team completed its short five week season on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the Northwest Suburban Conference Cross Country Championship in Elk River, MN.  Nearly thirty of the team’s fifty-two athletes had their personal best performance of the season as they raced the 3000 meter course on a beautiful autumn day.
The Jackson boys won the team championship by a narrow four point margin over traditional powerhouses Andover and Anoka.  Jackson’s point total was 66, followed by Andover and Anoka at 70 and 74, respectively (in cross country, the team with the lowest point total wins).  Eight teams were in the race.  The Jackson boys were led by Nicholas Bauer with a solid fourth place finish.  Nick completed the 3000 meter course in 11:31 (6:11 per mile average).  A lot of credit for the team’s championship goes to the next six finishers of the team; Mark Scheller (13th 12:06), Danny Kloeppner (18th 12:19), Ben Fischer (21st 12:33), Connor O’Donoghue (23rd 12:35), Carter Fox (29th 12:44) and Owen Eerdmans (38th 13:04). Mark, Danny, Connor, Carter and Owen all ran personal best in the race…well done…nice timing boys!

Ty Schneider was also in the mix with an estimated finish time of 12:49, however his time and place was not officially recorded due to a lost timing chip.
The Jackson girls finished in fourth place in what was a six team race.  Andover won the team competition with a low 26 points.  Maple Grove was second with 30, followed by Elk River and Jackson with 104 and 110, respectively.

Sydney Crandall led the Jackson girls placing 29th in 14:02 (7:32 per mile average), a personal best performance of the season for a 3000 meter course.  Rounding out the top seven for the team were Jennifer Omann (14:27), Audrey Whitman (14:35), Emily Lindell (14:35), Annie Miller (14:36), Greta Bahe (15:17), and Gracie Onstad (16:00).  Jenny, Emily, Greta, and Gracie also ran personal best in the race…well done ladies!
Unfortunately some athletes were dealing with injuries late in the season and so they were not able to race to their full ability...this happens in cross country.  The following athletes also ran personal best for the season in the race...well done:
Zoey Adams, Aaron Cavalier, Eric Fjellman, Camden Fox, Kyle Horton, Grant Jansen, Avery Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Tyler Mayo, Devin Miller, Gavin Moretter, Ryan Nelson, Ryan Preston, Alyssa Rovick, Nathan Rovick, Andrew Scinicariello, Emma Stark, Dalton Stohlmann, and Nick Stotz.
